In order to promote proper eye care, the National Eye Institute (NEI) has designated May as Healthy Vision Month. With that same aim, Insight Eyecare’s “iCare” blog launched just over a year ago, to educate patients and the general public about the importance of caring for their vision. The NEI advises people to quit smoking (which increases the risk of eye disease), eat right and maintain a healthy weight, all of which safeguard vision along with improving overall health. Computer Vision Syndrome is a term that’s been in the news lately. Skeptics say it’s a trendy new diagnosis for an old phenomenon — eye strain resulting from close-up visual tasks. Basically, CVS is a fancy term for eye strain and a cluster of other symptoms (dry eyes, blurred vision, fatigue, headaches) due to prolonged computer use. How to Select the Right Protective Eyewear
Many tasks in the workplace or around the house call for proper protective eyewear. Since each job presents different hazards, it is important that you choose the correct safety equipment for the task at hand. First, identify which hazards will be present in your work area. The most common hazard is impact from flying debris such as woodchips, metal shavings, rocks, dirt, tree branches, etc. These hazards are usually associated with woodworking, machining, grinding, drilling and yard work.
