NatGeo’s “Brain Games” Reveals the Brain’s Inner Workings While Messing with Your Mind

When I examine patients, brain function is one of the factors I assess because visual processing is ultimately a cognitive function. Like I always say: You see with your brain, not your eyes.

Now you can be more aware of what’s going on in your head through a fun series on the NatGeo channel. Brain Games tackles topics such as focus, fear, persuasion, decision-making and neural fitness by talking with doctors and scientists who study the mind. Even a “deception specialist” makes regular appearances to share how he fools his subjects. As Episode 11, Illusion Confusion, makes clear — seeing is not always believing! This episode touches on topics like depth and dimensional perception, demonstrating that optical illusions can be powerful tools for revealing how we process visual input.

If you don’t have time to watch the full episodes on NatGeo, explore the website which features clips from the show, optical illusions and “brain challenges.” You’ll be sure to learn a thing or two about how the brain and the eyes work together to keep your world in focus.
