3-D Archery Tourney to Benefit Union Grove ISD Archery Club

Co-sponsor Craig Eye Associates, a Division of Insight Eyecare, Gives Participants of All Ages an Opportunity to “Shoot an Eye Out”

September12, 2011 — The Union Grove ISD Archery Club and the Arrow-Minded Hunt Club will co-host a 3-D archery tourney for all interested archers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 on the Union Grove school grounds at 11220 Union Grove Road in Gladewater. All proceeds benefit the UG Archery Club.

Event co-sponsor Dr. Jeff Pinkerton of Craig Eye, a division of Insight Eyecare with offices in Kilgore and White Oak, is donating two unique targets that allow archers to (safely) “shoot an eye out” and win prizes.

The 3-D tourney consists of a 25-target course, with multiple divisions for every skill level including a Hunter Division for all ages; a Traditional Division for recurve and long bow shooters;and high school, junior high and elementary divisions. Entrance fee is $25 per person.

For a nominal fee and an opportunity to win additional prizes, archers can take part in an Iron Rhino Contest; a Long Distance Shot; a one-of-a-kind target shoot featuring ping pong balls (“eye balls”) hovering in midair; and a speed-shooting contest with a chain-reaction device and eyeball targets that disappear in the blink of an eye if the shooter’s reflexes are too slow. Arrive at 9 a.m. to give the special targets a shot. The 3-D shoot starts at 10.

There will be a hot dog lunch, door prizes, and a raffle for a Mathews Drenalin bow. Raffle tickets are available the day of the contest or at any UG football game for $10.

Union Grove is a member of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP).
